The Front Steps Project NH

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Update 3/28/20:

The governor of NH has issued a stay-at-home order, which we are abiding by. All sessions have been paused as of 3/27/20 11:59 PM. Thank you to all participants of this project! Scroll down for entire gallery.

Excited to share an exciting project Karen Wituszynski Photography is participating in along with many other photographers across the country.

"It feels like the world has stopped, doesn’t it?

Yet, I am very, very aware that I am here – in New Hampshire – with my family and neighbors, friends and others (though virtually!) during this unprecedented time.

As a photographer, I spend hours every week capturing images of families in times of joy: babies on the way, newborns, siblings, grandparents and more. Those moments of joy are still happening in homes right now. I know it. But I can’t be there to capture them."

Tomorrow (Sunday 3/22) and Tuesday 3/24 only (weather permitting) I'm taking five minute “Front Steps Portraits” of Dover/Somersworth residents.

After your quick session, I will send you the digital file of your portrait. These sessions are free of charge.

The only thing I ask for in exchange is a pay-what-you-can donation (suggested amount is $50 but anything helps). 100% of this money will go toward purchasing meals from local restaurants to donate to the Dover Children’s Home as they are looking for sponsors to buy dinners for the children.

I will be posting these images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #TheFrontStepsProjectNH so please share these posts! Inspire others.

"The purpose of this project is to bring us together when we might feel isolated. I aim to highlight the faces of our community during a time when we might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym. Participating in this project is also an opportunity to step up to help those who need it most right now."

I will be taking images outside ONLY and from at least 8 feet away. Our session will be brief, likely just 5 minutes, maybe less. You will get a text when I arrive and we will have absolutely zero physical contact.

Please do not dress up for this session. The goal is to capture your family exactly as you are during this time. These portraits will be very casual and should reflect your family.

"Want to stand outside in your pajamas and slippers? Sounds good to me. Kids in mismatched clothes but you’re thrilled they got dressed? Fantastic. Wearing your bike gear because you’re headed off to ride a trail in the nice weather? Love it! Be you."

These portraits are open to

  • individuals

  • families

  • small businesses

To participate in the project, go here and fill out the form and I will get back to you within 24 hours. All donations for dinners for the Dover Children's Home are to be made here.

If you are not a Dover/Somersworth resident, email me with your town and if there is enough interest, I will do my best to make it out there too.

Please share the word!
